Physical-Ability / Tools

  • bbSmall College baseball players must possess minimum standard of position-specific Physical-Ability / Tools.
  • bbSmall Arm-Strength

  • bbSmall Fielding

 

Character & Makeup

  • bbSmall Character & makeup determines how a student-athlete responds under pressure to failure & adversity,  
    as well as desire to succeed.
  • bbSmall College baseball coaches avoid potential problem players with history of authority issues & criminal incidents.
  • bbSmall Student-athletes don’t know who is watching & don’t get 2nd chance to make 1st impression.

Academic-Ability  (Grades)

  • bbSmall Student-athlete must understand that improving grades improves chance of receiving baseball scholarship.  College baseball programs seek student-athletes equally dedicated to baseball & academics.
  • bbSmall Student-athletes have advantage during recruiting process because coaches award scholarships to student-athlete with highest grades when choosing between recruits of equal talent.

    NCAA Baseball Eligibility Requirements:

  • bbSmall Failure of baseball programs to observe NCAA eligibility requirements results in penalties to program.
  • bbSmall Student-athlete must maintain amateur standing.
  • bbSmall Minimum GPA in core curriculum & corresponding minimum ACT / SAT scores required to qualify.
  • bbSmall Student-athlete must graduate with high school class.

    NCAA Eligibility Registration:  NCAA Eligibility-Center  bgo

  • bbSmall NCAA Eligibility Center certifies academic eligibility for Division I & II baseball student-athletes. Division III, NAIA, & JUCO programs don’t use Eligibility Center.
  • bbSmall Student-athlete must contact schools for academic eligibility requirements and recruiting rules.
  • bbSmall Student-Athlete must register with NCAA Eligibility Center by July 1st after junior year to be eligible for official recruiting visits & qualify for Division I or II baseball scholarship.
  • bbSmall Sign Transcript Release Forms & give to high school guidance counselor.
  • bbSmall At completion of junior year, high school guidance counselor should mail official transcript to NCAA Eligibility Center (faxed transcripts & test scores not accepted).
  • bbSmall Student-athlete should have SAT / ACT test scores forwarded directly to Eligibility Center.

    ACT & SAT Standardized Tests:  ACT  bgo & SAT-Collegeboard  bgo 

  • bbSmall Student-athletes must achieve minimum required score on SAT / ACT before enrolling full time.
  • bbSmall When registering for SAT / ACT, request that scores be sent directly to Eligibility Center from testing agency.  (Test scores not accepted via high school transcript.)
  • bbSmall Student-athlete can take SAT & ACT multiple times, using best sub-score from different tests to meet minimum score requirements.
  • bbSmall Select fall test dates during junior year to avoid conflicting dates during spring baseball season & to allow time for re-testing to improve score.

    Home-School:    

  • bbSmall Student-athletes, home schooled during any part of grade 9-12, planning to enroll at Division I or II schools must meet same criteria as other students.
  • bbSmall Home schooled student-athlete must register with Eligibility Center at beginning of junior year.
  • bbSmall Eligibility Center determines home schooled student-athletes’ eligibility at NCAA Division I or Division II institution during freshman year.
  • bbSmall Division III schools don’t use Eligibility Center.  Student-athletes must contact Division III schools for academic eligibility requirements & recruiting rules.
